MEJA South Africa uses CSPro (Census and Survey Processing System) as our data capturing software. CSPro is public domain software from the US Census Bureau which is suitable for data entry, processing, tabulating, and mapping census and survey data. CSPro allows creation, modification and running of data entry batches, editing and cross tabulation applications from a single integrated development environment. It processes data on a case basis (one or more questionnaires) where a case can consist of one or many data records. The data are stored in (ASCII) text files described by data dictionaries. CSPro contains powerful common procedural language to implement data entry control and edit rules. Most importantly errors are minimized and verification can be done.
Attention will be given to the following phases during data processing:
- Data entry and preliminary validation
- Appending and merging of files
- Data validation (further checking, editing)
- Completion of data capturing and generation of data files
- Conversion of data files to spss files, stata and excel
- Storage of all files
- Backup of data
